This large group exhibition is independently curated by Tanya Leighton (former Whitney-Lauder curating fellow ICA Philadelphia). Its curatorial premise aims to deal both politically and philosophically with the implicit and explicit politics of our contemporary reception of images and information. The international range of artists includes Walid Raad, Jeremy Deller, Robert Smithson/Nancy Holt as well as renowned film-makers such as Jean-Luc Godard and Harun Farocki.
My participation involves a set of works that contribute to a questioning of the issues set forth by the show. In varying ways these each address themes of containment and dispersal that have had a formal presence in my work, specifically referring here to (a) knowledge and interpretation at different levels of coherence and release (b) to structural (or infrastructural) motifs. These aim to explore the inscribing of ourselves, through subjectivities, upon structures of organisation, production and identification.
The CCA is one of Glasgow's main venues for exhibitions and cultural activities. Funded by the Scottish Arts Council and Glasgow City Council, this exhibition also received support from Pro Helvetia, Institut Francais and Universidad de los Andes, Bogota. The exhibition was re-staged in New York, at Artists Space and Anthology Film Archives (16.11.06-22.12.06) - organisations that have championed experimental art practice and film since 1972 and 1970 respectively - and will tour to venues in Minneapolis and Copenhagen in 2007/8.
A book is published in relation to the exhibition containing texts written and selected by some of the artists and the curator (see portfolio). It includes my selections: "Ease" by Giorgio Agamben and "Tokyo Metropolitan Subway: Kodemmacho Station" by Haruki Murakami.
Two of the works I produced for the originating exhibition have subsequently been acquired by the Arts Council England collection.
One work was additionally exhibited at Art Basel 37 (fair) 14.06.06-18.06.06.
