The Permeable Institution

Details

Creators:Ayers, Alain
Description:

DVD, Collated references, web-pages, presentations
The concepts for the ‘Permeable Institution’ have been researched and developed since 2002. Extensive research was carried out on the 3-cycle model, curricula, pedagogy, professional development, access and criteria for progression.

Ayers is now undertaking a key stage on the Permeable Institution around ‘network learning’ and ‘co-production’ as a third way in the research/practice – pedagogy/teaching models currently profiled in Arts education.

The proposal is that knowledge and skills are taught and relearned in an ‘enfolded’ context where the practitioner, actor (such as artist, teacher, student), the art object or idea and audiences move continuously and that this uncertainty and complexity of experience could be celebrated as distinctive to 'Fine Art' and essential for its relevance.

Manuel Castell's reworking of Rene Dubos' phrase 'think globally act locally' necessitates much more than an adaptation of UK postwar Coldstream Art Schools.
