| Description: | The Producers is the second exhibition for 2010-11 of the BSR Fine Arts Programme, directed by Jacopo Benci. The exhibition presents new works by the current residents, artists MICK FINCH, RICHARD GASPER, JANET HASLETT, BARBIE KJAR,ANNEE MIRON, ELIZABETH PRICE, and architect ALISON CRAWSHAW, and is supported in part by the Arts Council England;the Ruskin School of Drawing & Fine Art, Oxford; St Peter’s College, Oxford; St John’s College, Oxford; the Linbury Trust;the Edwin Abbey Trust; the Australia Council for the Arts; the National Art School, Sydney. MICK FINCH (Abbey Fellow in Painting, January-March 2011) graduated from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design with a BA Hons in Painting (1980) and the Royal College of Art with a MA in Painting (1985). Since then he has regularly exhibited internationally and has taught in France and Great Britain, most recently as the 2D Pathway leader in BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London. Parallel to his studio practice, writing and critical theory forms a significant activity, exploring French postwar painting/tableau with its links to ideology, materiality and medium. More information on his work can be found at www.mickfinch.com. Mick Finch’s current studio practice uses photographs that are integrated into complex painted relief forms. These tableau structures use the thickness and layers of the support to bring into play ideas of collage structure(shock, in terms of Walter Benjamin, the pathos formula and the engram in terms of Aby Warburg). The sources for the images used in the work to be exhibited, derive from an archive of images, taken and appropriated during his residency in Rome. |
