| Description: | Yarn is a site-specific artwork for the former cell space on the upper floor of the Th'Owd Towser, Holmfirth (Holmfirth Arts Festival, 2011). It is made of 450 wool dollies hung from the ceiling of the ‘cell room’ of the old church lock up, and a drawing. The dolls represent the 450 Holmfirth men who took the Luddite Oath and were ‘twisted-in’ to the Luddite’s secret society in the early 1800s. The massed dolls will gently twist and turn as they hang in the space. The silent installation, in the intimate and small cell space, will create a contemplative atmosphere, charged with meaning that references the history of the building and Holmfirth’s hidden history of Luddite activity. A caption panel will provide information about this context and history. |
