Drift

Shore, Tim (2011) Drift. [Art/Design Item]

Type of Research: Art/Design Item
Creators: Shore, Tim
Description:

Drift is a site-specific artwork for Situation Critical; the Contemporary Visual Arts programme of the Wirksworth Festival 2011

Drift

A serious but playful work that invites people to take part, and asks questions about place, meaning and heritage by way of a seemingly random and provocative juxtaposition of two sites that can be read as industrial ‘relics’: the urban and historic Conservation area of Wirksworth (in a non-urban setting) and the urban Battersea Power Station site in London. Both sites are connected by: an overwhelming (tactile and experiential) built environment; a rich industrial heritage; geographical opposition; divergent responses and solutions to how we deal with place and locality.
