Trash fashion: designing out waste

Round, Kathryn and Bowles, Melanie (2010) Trash fashion: designing out waste. [Show/Exhibition]

Type of Research: Show/Exhibition
Creators: Round, Kathryn and Bowles, Melanie
Description:

This exhibition investigates how design and technology will help to create clothes to wear without waste and what we all can do to reduce the impact of throwaway fashion.

Kathryn Round, in collaboration with designer Melanie Bowles, produced a digitally printed garment. Our starting point was a beautiful 1930's vintage dress once owned by a London debutante. Fascinated by its past history we photographed and reprinted it onto a silk crepe de chine and made it into a modern interpretation using bespoke digital textile printing.

Trash Fashion is a continuing exhibition which explores ways in which Fashion and Textile designers are experimenting with issues of recycling and sustainability, running from late 2010 for ten months in the Antenna Gallery of the Science Museum in London.
