Footnote to a Project is a publication produced to accompany the launch of the 2011 Abraaj Capital Art Prize (ACAP) at Art Dubai. The book was conceived by ACAP Guest Curator Sharmini Pereira with the design studio OK-RM (Oliver Knight and Rory McGrath).
In common with the way footnotes adjoin a text, the book was designed to be a ‘footnote’ to accompany a prize. It illustrates each of the five winning artworks in relation to a series of footnotes comprised entirely from black and white images that provide information about each of the artworks by Hamra Abbas, Jananne Al-Ani, Shezad Dawood, Nadia Kaabi-Linke and Timo Nasseri, 2011’s winning artists. The black and white images are in turn indexed to a series of notes that provide further elaboration. Each Artist's section is completed with a series of specially commissioned photographs by Thomas Brown of the five winning works, Woman in Black, Shadow Sites II, New Dream Machine Project, Flying Carpets and Gon.
