Mr and Mrs Walker have moved

Eggebert, Anne (2011) Mr and Mrs Walker have moved. [Show/Exhibition]

Type of Research: Show/Exhibition
Creators: Eggebert, Anne
Description:

Mr and Mrs Walker have moved is a site specific, live art project at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge. Kettle’s Yard (now a museum) is the former home of Jim Ede and his wife, Helen. Eggebert and Walker decided that the best way to test Ede’s idea of Kettle’s Yard as a domestic living space and not a museum was to move in with their 18 month old son. As a harbinger to reality TV they installed CCTV cameras and placed a monitor in the window of the gallery space so that the passing public could view them day or night. The cctv footage, interviews and objects from performative actions will be shown at Shifting Boundaries.

Additional Information (Publicly available):

Shifting Boundaries addresses the themes of art and domestic space, and the relationships between the public and private spheres. Curated by Clare Sheppeard, the exhibition explores the ambiguities and contradictions inherent in our understanding of domestic space: while conveying a sense of security, intimacy and comfort, it also entails tension, confinement and alienation.

Kettle’s Yard 1998 residency archive material (35mm slides, video, objects, paperwork) and related new print works on paper.
