Asbury, Michael (2010) Anna Maria Maiolino. [Show/Exhibition]

Type of Research: Show/Exhibition
Creators: Asbury, Michael
Description:

A curatorial project, curating the solo exhibition of Anna Maria Maiolino at Galeria Andre Millan in São Paulo. André Millan has worked on the art market since 1986, promoting and disseminating contemporary art and correlating with the production of modern artists who have contributed effectively in the training of artists represented by gallery.

The market for contemporary art, especially with regard to national artists, is growing in geometrical progression. "The finding is André Millan, owner of Gallery Millan, in Vila Madalena, Sao Paulo. Andrew led to an Art Basel team formed exclusively by Brazilians, among them Tunga, Mira Schendel and Ana Maria Maiolino. In opinion, this rise is due to the inventiveness and originality of the national product. "Brazilian contemporary art attracts the public, the market and collectors abroad because it brings something new. It is rooted in the international market today, unlike the national modern art, which added nothing to the history of modern art, "he says.

He said that the golden age of Brazilian art began from the 1950s and 1960s, when names such as Helio Oiticica, Lygia Clark and Sérgio Camargo reversed this situation. "Three, four, five generations of artists who drank this spring have been developing a job that really, really, is innovative. Who gave oxygen to this edition of the fair were the Brazilians,"

Anna Maria Maiolino was born in Italy in 1942 and moved to Brazil at the age of eighteen. Studying painting in Rio de Janeiro her artistic career took shape in the 1960s and 1970s, a key period in Brazilian art when artistic experimentation clashed with a repressive political regime. She is one of the most significant artists working in Brazil today.
