Description:

The curator and professor at the University of Arts London Michael Asbury, focuses on the relationship between painting and installation in the work of Manuel Antonio. He recalled the history of the Brazilian artist and commented on his recent work, always complemented by painting facilities. Asbury reminded the trajectory of the Brazilian artist, who worked for many years upon the structure of layout found in newspapers. Currently, Manuel mainly produces facilities, but these are always complemented by the painting. Asbury said that, contrary to what may seem at first sight, "thematic and formal associations of these facilities has an agreement with the radical root of Manuel Antonio, from the year 1960." To illustrate his statement, the teacher reminded of Buffer Zone, Antonio Manuel explained in Cyprus. In this work, the artist painted several walls pitted in a clear reference to the division of the capital, held in 1974 after a civil-war.
