Cornershops is a work in progress which has arisen out of a larger area of research that has the working title of 'Interiors' and involves investigations into alternative photographic perspectives. It is also influenced by the dual perspective work made previously in collaboration with Jawed Ashraf (Twins and Keep Left). Cornershops are images which depict almost believable spaces and playfully draw viewers in by their direct, documentary quality and this, combined with enough carefully disguised oddness, seems to engage people in a way that belies the apparent simplicity of the pictures. They are puzzles which intrigue and entertain whether their solution seems obvious or not. |
