| Description: | StarD is a strand of my SoundForms research. It was a newly commissioned body of work for the pioneering exhibition ‘Designing Machines: Fashioning a New Order’ at the Holon Design Museum, Israel, 14th October 2010 – 1st January 2011. This show highlighted how a particular breed of fashion designers and practitioners have utilised specific processes, systems or ‘machines’ in which to initiate, conceive or manufacture fashion garments, accessories or products. Work submitted included an original electronic soundtrack, design drawings, 2-D artworks, an animation film and a bespoke dress derived from the updated SoundForms software. As a selected piece of music plays, the program assesses a particular piece of music and matches it with a particular visual motif that best ‘describes’ the sound. The resulting evolving visual arrangements are then projected and become the basis of a fashion idea or sketch, which can then be pursued in more conventional terms. |
