Simon Thorogood had a section included in the book that accompanied the exhibition ‘Mechanincal Couture: Fashioning a New Order’ at the Holon Design Museum.
The exhibition was described as follows by the book's publisher:
In this exhibition the exhibited pieces are the products of incorporating machines into the design process and as part of the final product itself, as opposed to products designed to serve as a platform for exhibiting the technology. Twelve international designers (including thee Israelis) will attempt to challenge the traditional concept of haute couture, and reflect contemporary cultural reality as they do so. The role played by machines will also be illuminated from a different angle - not as a means to increasing efficiency and output, but as a means to understanding new forms and products.
