Laser Line

Goldsworthy, Kate (2010) Laser Line. [Art/Design Item]

Type of Research: Art/Design Item
Creators: Goldsworthy, Kate
Description:

The ‘Laser Line’ project (2010-ongoing) proposes a transformative model for hi-tech and sustainable garment production through a digitally driven technology, and is represented by 4 garment prototypes produced and exhibited between 2010-2012.

Goldsworthy was invited to produce the first of the four prototypes as a development of previous work (‘Mono Finishing’) with funding from the Science Museum for the exhibition ‘Trash Fashion: designing out waste’ (2010-2011). The work demonstrated the potential to solve multiple sustainability issues in the current textile 'production and disposal' model by producing a garment with only the use of laser technology.

Two further garments were produced with support from The Welding Institute (TWI) and Teijin Fibres and exhibited at the Audax Textile Museum, Tilburg in ‘ReTHINK!’, 2010-2011. A fourth prototype in the series was commissioned by the VF Corporation, the world’s largest apparel company for VF FutureWear.
