Description: | The exhibition, ‘Hilary Lloyd’, consisted of five new works [Motorway (2010), Trousers (2010), Man (2010), Crane (2010) and Tunnel (2010)]. She was nominated for the Turner Prize for this exhibition. The exhibition addressed the nature of the ‘routine viewpoint’ and how an apparently mundane perspective might be transformed through sound, variation of focus, duration and mode of installation. It sought to expand the ways in which video art might be regarded, accentuating its site-specific potential, the use of natural light and well-lit spaces and its intersection with other media such as sculpture and painting. Rapid snatches of video imagery or long slow takes reflected a sense of acting things out and resulted in a further emphasis on the sculptural. The exhibition utilised video together with the installation of its accompanying equipment into the architecture of Raven Row. Multiple videos were projected directly on the walls in simple configurations. Current contemporary video equipment was exactingly installed using a commercially manufactured and engineered modular display system, with additional units designed in association with Lloyd. There were considerable structures in the galleries and extensive cabling across the ceilings. |
