Template Shirts

Earley, Rebecca (2010) Template Shirts. [Art/Design Item]

Type of Research: Art/Design Item
Creators: Earley, Rebecca
Description:

Earley’s research for the four Template Shirts contributed to the development of TED’s TEN, a set of principles for sustainable textile/fashion design developed by Earley et.al. The shirts use TED’s TEN as a framework – here extending materials/process research into design for fashion service concepts to further extend the life of the shirts. The Template Shirts – all old Marks & Spencer garments bought from London charity shops – have overprint designs that are intended for layering over a period of time. The first overprint was designed by Earley with the second overprint in mind – to be added to the shirt when the consumer tires of the current look. The shirts were exhibited in ‘reTHINK!: Eco Textiles’, 2010-11, Audax Textile Museum, Tilburg, and presented through a keynote lecture at the ‘Slow Textiles Conference’, Stroud International Textiles Festival, 2010. They featured in ‘Basics Textile Design’ (Steed & Stevenson, 2012).
