Thorpe, Adam, Fight For Peace Ambassadors, Luta, Ltd. (2012) Luta Fightwear Collection. [Art/Design Item]

Type of Research: Art/Design Item
Creators: Thorpe, Adam
Group or Collective Creators: Fight For Peace Ambassadors, Luta, Ltd.
Description:

This sportswear collection combines Thorpe’s research in collaborative socially responsive design for social innovation with his professional design practice. Fight for Peace, a youth charity founded in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas with sister centre in London, uses martial arts plus education to realise youth potential in violence/crime-ridden communities. In 2009 Thorpe was invited to create a fightwear brand, with profits to FFP. Thorpe designed/implemented a co-design methodology leveraging the knowledge of FFP’s ambassadors (mainly world champion martial artists), plus cultural insights from FFP’s young beneficiaries in London/Rio. Several workshops informed development of a fightwear collection, co-designed by Thorpe, since marketed worldwide.
