Description: | * signifies portfolio evidence See outputs 1&2 for a description of my research practice. ‘Public Works’* is an artists' book documenting the Horsebridge Commissions* in Whitstable, Kent, during which I was responsible for five public art projects as part of an integrated art programme. It forms part of ‘Project-R’: the application of the Plastic Approach to the context of post-consumption, recycling, waste and its management. The project, conducted between 2001 and 2006 in a range of environments (art institutions and public spaces) explored the way in which the Plastic Approach could be applied successfully to change our perception and interaction with waste material. Strategies relating to the visibility of artefacts in the context of advertising and the fine arts were applied to the world of waste and its tools, in order to highlight its presence in our public spaces, in our economies and in our culture. Between 2001 and 2006, this project yielded a number of interrelated outputs alongside the Horsebridge art programme: Public commission: 5 artwork/bins for the Pavillon le Corbusier, Foundation Suisse, CIUP; Paris 2002*. Artworks in the public domain: Artefacts in group shows: Websites: Each new project furthered our understanding of what constitutes the specificity of the Plastic Approach, the forms that it can take on, and the cultural and social implications of its outcomes. |
