| Description: | Golden Hour (2006) is an audio work developed during Golden (Lessons), a solo exhibition and research residency at Beaconsfield, London, punctuated by a series of live events and performance interventions. Golden (Lessons) took up motifs of ballroom and song as vehicles of nostalgia, aspiration and cultivation, continuing an ongoing series of work developed under the rubric Golden. A non-stop, makeshift medley of ‘melodies for dancing and dreaming’, Golden Hour navigates through the artist’s father’s 1960s vinyl collection of Western ballroom and Chinese pop, encountered as an index of opening and closing bars. Previewed at the beginning of the residency, Golden Hour was remixed and broadcast on Resonance 104.4FM at its close. Golden Hour was exhibited at the 1st Asia Biennial and 5th Guangzhou Triennial, 2015-16, Guangzhou; 'Diaspora Pavilion', 2017, Palazzo Pisani Santa Marina, 57th Venice Biennale; and 'Diaspora Pavilion', 2018, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, UK. Golden Hour is part of the ongoing project, 'Golden' (2005-present). |
