You, Me, Us, and Them: A post-digital approach to graphic design, research and publishing practices

Speakers from academia, publishing and design practice discussed how graphic design can meet the challenges of research both as an academic and professional discipline. Research was considered in terms of history, theory and practice. What is the nature of graphic design research? Who are the audiences? How is it disseminated? How do we finance it? How can we connect research and teaching?

This paper looked at the connections that lie between graphic design, research and publishing practices asking questions such as: What is the special relationship between graphic design and publishing? What forms can design research take as publishable objects in the new publishing landscape? How can graphic design help us rethink traditional modes of knowledge production within academia? What kind of impact do experimental modes of production, intervention and dissemination of content have on publishing?
