Description: | Solo exhibition at Pingyao International Photography Festival, China The White Cliffs of Dover and the East Kent coast are the UK’s frontier with continental Europe. A place of departure by sea or tunnel and a historical site of resistance and defence. The Straits of Dover in the channel are the busiest shipping lane in the world and the Port of Dover is the busiest roll on roll off freight and passenger route in Europe. Dover is a city shaped by the UK’s relationship with continental Europe. Its residents voted to leave the European Union. In the event of a no deal Brexit, Dover will be the focus of transport delays and interruptions to supplies indicated in Operation Yellowhammer, the UK government’s outline of potential disruptions resulting from a sudden departure from the European Union. Edmund Clark was born in Dover. He has walked the white cliffs every year of his life but has never spent much time in the city itself. The divisions and tensions created by the Brexit debate moved him to walk its streets. |
