Mejia Moreno, Catalina (2017) Lights off. Projector On. First Slide Please. [Performance]

Type of Research: Performance
Creators: Mejia Moreno, Catalina
Description:

In an nine-part circuit of installations and interventions travelling throughout the spaces of the CCA, Francesca Ammon, Davide Deriu, Reto Geiser, Sara Goldsmith, Catalina Mejía Moreno, Bas Princen, Mika Savela, and Peter Sealy invite us to reflect on photography’s critical and creative relationship with architecture.

With funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the CCA has run Architecture and/for Photography, a multidisciplinary research project, over the past eighteen months. Using photographs from the CCA collection as a point of departure, the eight researchers—historians of architecture and planning, artists, curators, photographers, and writers—developed distinct micro-histories of photography and architecture.

Presentations will address the valorization of crafted materiality, the narration of hyper-objects, digital visual culture, a continuing belief in photorealism, the disappearance of technology, the socio-political power of documentation, the photographic concealment of facts, and the mediation of experience. Beyond the documentation of buildings, photography draws from new aesthetics and new technological developments to contribute to the creation of architecture’s image culture.

Following introductions at 4pm, the circuit will begin with live presentations by Davide Deriu, Peter Sealy, Reto Geiser, Sara Goldsmith, Mika Savela, and Catalina Moreno, and a recorded video by Bas Princen. Phyllis Lambert will give a curator talk on Greystone: Tools for Understanding the City, and Francesca Ammon will lead a panel, in conversation with Clara Gutsche, David Miller, and Phyllis Lambert.
