Description: | This play, written and performed by the two Brothers Marquez, was a complex narrative mixing the worlds of circus and fable. It required costume transformations and scenic illusions using video technology to give the impression that there were many more performers on stage than just John and Martin. The writing and performance styles were both quirky and slightly disturbing. The design arranged disparate elements into a semi-deconstructed whole that gave the impression of an open and transparent structure but that had hidden or finely tuned mechanics for transformation, appearances and disappearances - in effect a box of tricks. The speed of the story demanded that the brothers make lightening-quick costume changes, veering from back stage to on-stage circus life. |
