| Description: | A series of 5 video essays made by and for SHOWstudio.com, released in 2024. I was invited by Nick Knight to be the presenter and create my own script in which I situate - using my own socio-cultural and fashion historical references - the costumes of 5 fictional video gaming characters: Princess Peach, Alucard, Lightning, Albert Wesker and Yorha. The series is called SKINS and can be seen on the SHOWstudio website and on YouTube. SHOWstudio invited dress historian and curator Amy de la Haye to analyse the outfits of iconic fictional video game characters, contextualising the clothes - here known as 'skins' - within fashion and costume history. Ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach is more than just a vision in pink. Dress historian Amy de la Haye breaks down the fashion history behind the female protagonist's look in the Nintendo Mario franchise. As the highest-grossing horror franchise, Japanese game series Resident Evil has the lead character to match. Albert Wesker's villainous appearance is analysed by dress historian Amy de la Haye. YoRHA is a human-crafted android character in the video game Nier:Automata, created and dressed to do battle. Dress historian and curator Amy de la Haye breaks down YoRHA's unique gaming skin. Shapeshifter and apt swordsman, Alucard is a half-vampire, half-human fictional character from the Castlevania game series. Dress historian and curator Amy de la Haye analyses the son of Dracula's costume. This Final Fantasy heroine is named after her ability to flash between different worlds in search of her captive sibling. You may also know Lightning from the Louis Vuitton SERIES 4 advertising campaign. Dress historian and curator Amy de la Haye breaks down Lightning's iconic pink hair and wardrobe. https://www.showstudio.com/projects/skins |
