| Description: | IT IS WANTING is a practice-based multi modal work that takes a variety of forms: 1) a multi modal performance comprising Video projection, physical and vocal performance with props and staging, 15 minutes duration 2) a single-screen video version of the above, incorporating re-staged performance mixed with video, 10.5 minutes duration. 3) A 1 minute edit of the video work has also been shown widely as part of a touring programme in the series curated by Kerry Baldry called ’One Minute Volume 12’. IT IS WANTING is a defiant, weird, multi-modal work using bar codes as its visual motif. It is a melancholy lament to over-production, compulsive consumption and toxic automation. A 60-year-old woman (the Filmmaker) confronts over-consumption and AI-fuelled misogynistic ageism with deadpan slapstick, a sculptural costume with related props and an intricate, animated video. Words are spoken and chanted on and off screen and accompanied by electronic and live music, made in collaboration with composer Matt Rogers. IT IS WANTING advances the development of a new, multi-modal formal vocabulary using novel combinations of moving image and performance genres. The work explores the development of an expressive vocabulary equal to the interrogation of acute contemporary anxieties; fears of extinction; unstable relationships with technology and ecological collapse. Screenings of the 1 minute edit of the video work I have pasted here, for clarity, instead of inputting them in the field below as part of touring programme (1 Minute, Volume 12) curated by Kerry Baldry at: Storyhouse, Chester, UK, 6th July 2024 more info at http://oneminuteartistfilms.blogspot.com/ |
