Decoding Visions of White: Negotiated Modernities through Style-Fashion-Dress

Yu, Christin (2026) Decoding Visions of White: Negotiated Modernities through Style-Fashion-Dress. In: State Fictions. Beyond Blossoms and Borders. Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, pp. 109-128. (In Press)

Type of Research: Book Section
Creators: Yu, Christin
Description:

This essay explores the fashionscapes represented in the visual grammar of the photographs captured in Korea by the Swiss military personnel during their mission as part of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission. I trace the iterations and imaginings of Korea through white cloth, which are held in tension with the wooden uniforms and undressed bodies of the Swiss officers.
