This editorial discusses the events leading up to, during and following the 14th Annual Illustration Research Symposium, 'Illustration & Heritage: Sharing Histories to Draw Out Futures', hosted by the University of the Arts London in 2024. Dr Rachel Emily Taylor and Dr Amy Goodwin, the editors of this journal volume, which comprises two issues, define the practice-led field of ‘illustration and heritage’ and provide an overview of this first issue’s contents, organized around key thematic concerns that include: identity, nostalgia and place.
