This presentation presents an ongoing practice-based investigation into the relationship between Chinese shadow puppetry and immersive scenography. Through a series of practical experiments, it explores how participatory strategies and digital technologies transform audience engagement and reconfigure the interactions between puppets, performers and spectators. The project considers how Chinese shadow puppetry may continue to develop through immersive performance rather than through the reproduction of its traditional visual form.
