What Temple Do We Want?

What Temple Do We Want was a participatory performance and collective action that builds on artist Eva Sajovic’s recent work Rise and Fall of a Temple, concurrently showing at Chelsea Space.

It was an invitation to imagine, deliberate, and act together. To ome together to dream collectively and embody shared agency through sound, movement, and costume. To ask together: What future do we want? What future can we imagine—and divine—together?

Eva has led a collaborative process of creating costumes and props in collaboration with Rowan Kelly, which were shared and worn. Following a procession guided by Almiro Andrade, in the character of an augur, we gathered in a people’s assembly led by Yaz Ashmawi to consider what a “temple” for the future might be: what values it upholds, what it shelters, and what it excludes. The evening culminated in a collective decision on whether the temple will stand or fall, followed by an embodied action in response.
