Reliquary

At m2, the gallery’s windows are repurposed as reliquaries: sites for holding fragments of a broken past. Limbs, wings, vases, made in tufting, knit, glass, ceramics, embroidery. The exhibition asks, what, and who, do we cherish?

This work develops from research Sajovic began during her Fellowship at the British School at Rome, where she examined the systems and structures of the Roman Empire and their lasting impact. As part of this research, she explored the earthly and messenger realms, developing the figure of a messenger who appears in the film Rise and Fall of a Temple, made during the Fellowship; The messengers arrive on earth to assist people in dealing with the fallout of imperial collapse.
