MUSA – Group Exhibition. Curated by Ex-Elettrofonica.

MUSA is the theme chosen by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) for Casa Italia on the occasion of the Milan 2026 Olympic Games.

The Muses are the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, goddess of memory. They were born when the father of the gods, through his victory over the Titans, had established a new order in the world. The Muses are therefore the eternal guardians of the harmony that triumphs over chaos, through the innovative principle of the arts combined with the memory of the past.

On a symbolic level, the Muses represented for the Greeks the phenomenon of inspiration—that moment when one gains access to a flash of genius, an intuition capable of changing oneself, history, and the world around us.

What Casa Italia seeks to emphasize is Italy’s ability to become a Muse—that is, a source of inspiration for some of the most important minds in international culture. By visiting Italy, these figures have allowed themselves to be permeated by its influence, which in turn has shaped the way they see and interpret the world.

THALIA – “She Who Is Festive” – The Richness of Italian Culture
Thalia is depicted as a cheerful young woman wearing a crown of ivy and holding a mask in her hand. She is the Muse of comedy.

It is precisely her festive and irreverent character that has been associated with the Italian spirit and with the vitality and diversity of Italy’s cultural heritage. The works presented in this section reference numerous celebrated works of art, reinterpreting and bringing them into the present, thereby affirming the universal value of Italian art.

This section features works by Ai Weiwei, Per Barclay, Ifeyinwa Joy Chiamonwu, Slawomir Elsner, Gelitin, Jonathan Monk, Park Eun Sun, Eva Sajovic, Anri Sala, Thomas Struth, and Uwe Wittwer.
