| Description: | Standing Ground: Re-thinking the Painted British Landscape was a group exhibition, held in 2024 at the Thames-Side Studios Gallery in London, which considered what it means to paint the landscape of Britain today. The exhibition featured work by 12 artists including the curators Raksha Patel and Trevor Burgess. Kimathi Donkor presented two new paintings from his 'Idyls' series and also contributed a text about his practice to the fully illustrated exhibition catalogue. The conceptual framework of the show sought to expand ideas about the British landscape painting tradition. British identity itself has been strongly associated with the acclaimed landscapes of artists like Gainsborough, Constable and Turner, but the new perspectives in Standing Ground, including Kimathi Donkor's work, embodied how Britain's post-colonial society might also e-imagine this constantly evolving practice.
