Description: | Smother was a performed installation at 101 Kings Cross Road. Commissioned by Artangel, the work was developed with very young parents who attended a weekly drop-in service at Coram. Climbing the narrow stairs of a three-sided tower, a girl searches for her lost cherries, is pushed aside by a braying buggy and tries not to throw the baby out with the bath water. Smother is a story of emotional resilience, adaptability, loneliness and joy, of constant battles and glorified victories. Smother also contributed to a Study of New Model Arts Institutions and Public Engagement by the University of Central Lancashire, exploring the relationship between artistic practice and personal/social transformation. |
