Type of Research: Show/Exhibition
Creators: Sutherland, Patrick
Description:

Group exhibition

2011 is the 2600th anniversary of Sambodhiprapti, the Enlightenment of the Buddha. India is the birthplace of Buddhism, the Dharma that gave to the world the profound teachings of non-violence, compassion and wisdom as taught by Buddha - teachings which continue to be relevant.

In order to commemorate Buddha’s Sambodhiprapti, the Asoka Mission has organised a four-day Global Buddhist Congregation from 27 November to 30 November 2011 in New Delhi, India. Religious, spiritual and world leaders, as well as 800 scholars, delegates and observers from 32 countries will be attending the Congregation.

The congregation will examine both the capacity and the resilience of Buddhism to engage with the most pressing concerns of the modern world, namely violence, social and economic disparity, environmental degradation and discord between and within communities and nations.

The President of India will inaugurate the Congregation on 27 November 2011, with the Prime Minister as Guest of Honour. The valedictory session will be held on 30 November, with His Holiness the Dalai Lama as chief guest.

To commemorate this event a substantial 160 page photographic book and accompanying exhibition will be launched at the congregation
