Description: | A unique 'MEMS in Gems(R)' luxury pendant that doubles as a wearable perfumer diffuser for designer fine fragrance embedded in bespoke jewellery The ruby and gold pendant uses a wireless humidity sensor and microfluidics MEMS technology. Made from 24 carat gold and gemstones, the butterfly scent-dispensing pendent was designed by Don Baxendale for the AHRC funded eScent project. The non-working model includes imitation scent reservoir, microelectronics and nozzle system, materials include gold and rubies and thin gold chain. Inspired by the intricate transport and defence mechanisms in insects (beetles, moths, spiders), the pendent was designed for the CTIA Fashion In Motion technology catwalk show to introduce a luxury high-end market, miniaturised scent device using MEMS technology (micro-electro-mechanical systems) 'MEMS In Gems' is a trade mark owned by Dr Jenny Tillotson |
