Description: | Following the publication of my co-authored book 'Improving Teaching and Learning: a whole institution approach' in 2005, I was invited to contribute to an edited collection on issues related to current methodological approaches used to investigate issues in teaching and learning in higher education. Essentially this chapter builds on one of the chapters in the 'Improving Teaching and Learning' book that I wrote and extending my earlier research by focusing further on evaluating current methodological practices employed by scholars in the field of teaching and learning in higher education. The work involved a review of the current literature on the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) as well as the recent policy developments in education research in the UK. Added to my earlier work on defining new territories of research in teaching and learning, the work reported in this chapter attempted to address specific methodological issues linked to research in these new areas. |
