Description: | Mixed media including American cherry, bamboo, oil on MDF, pencil and print on paper. Dimensions variable. Referencing Sakuteiki (historic Japanese garden design), Hanami (flower watching) and locating Hashi-ishi (a bridge shaped stone), Eggebert takes the idea of making a garden at a distance and looks for the constituent parts both close to home and across virtual terrain. The work reflects on a sense of placeness through the proximal, the distant and the virtual, and mulls over the problem of trying to picture place as a means of a subjective connection to the other-in-place. This work extends her enquiry into representations of landscape and how they might impact on our performance of place, where we are when we perceive, and how the distinction between finding and losing one's sense of place might be blurred. |
