| Description: | Acrylic Painting and Gold Leaf on 4 Colour Screen Print on 300gsm Somerset Cotton in collaboration with a series by William Blanchard. Blanchard's original artwork is a 3D collage reproduced as a screen print. It uses a US military shooting target as its background and his addition of false nose, teeth and starshaped sunglasses renders the brutal reality of target to train killers impotent. McCloy adds further layers to this complexity, dealing with notions of gender as performance, femininity as masquerade and the woman and her body as both a symbol and a target of the male gaze for purely sexual gratification and potential violence. Bright colours and pop art styles with the simplified symbolism of the fairground comment on a society where these notions are normalized, entertained and entertaining. |
