Modeling the Organic: Cultural Value of Independent Artistic Production

This chapter analyses fine art activity as social value indicator data. The study uses a cultural modelling technique from the field of environmental social science to account for the contributions of independent fine art production towards wider debates surrounding cultural production and its role in society. Findings from the Sound Proof series of exhibitions are examined as a response to the Stratford site of the London 2012 Olympics at the time of construction in 2008. The study applies methodology developed by Veronica Strang in ethnography to analyse the artefacts produced for Sound Proof 1 (2008) and considers them in relation to impact studies done for London 2012.
