'filmografía' was a solo show with a catalogue putting my film work into critical context including texts by Michael Newman, Andrew Renton and Mark Godfrey.
When invited by the curator Alvaro Rodriguez Fominaya to mount a solo show at CAAM, I chose to focus on my three films all completed in 2002. Bringing together 'Descent', 'Flight' and 'Wall' in a single exhibition allowed me to explore the consistencies, differences and conceptual developments in the works.
'Wall', the most recent of the three continued exploration evident in 'Descent' (presented within the Turner Prize) and 'Flight' as all insist on the independence of the camera lens. 'Descent' separates ‘the lens’ from the image through the slow movement of a camera crane and 'Flight' through the vertigo plunge of a miniature camera on a remote-controlled helicopter. 'Wall' takes as its subject the partition between the Palestinians and the Israelis and the wall itself is constantly in the frame, thereby creating an experience of blockage both physical and psychological. A static camera on a moving vehicle slowly tracks the wall, its unquestioning eye synthesizing both figure (the wall) and context.
My aesthetic explorations do not follow theory though, as part of my AHRC fellowship, I organized a series of seminars at the Photographer’s Gallery, focusing on the work of Deleuze and Guatari in an attempt to situate my aesthetic in a theoretical relationship and the catalogue for this show takes this further.
'Wall' was produced with the aid of British Council and Arts Council funding . It has been shown at the Herzliya Museum in Israel, the Sakakini Cultural Centre in Ramallah, Cultuurcentrum Brugge, Belgium'
