Description: | We Are Everywhere is an anthology and a grassroots history of narratives written/documented by activists as part of a process of non-violent resistance against capitalism and economic globalisation. It crosses the subject disciplines of political science, social studies and individual and collective activism. Tony Credland was responsible for the book design, including marketing material and posters, stickers and leaflets; and as part of the Notes from Nowhere collective, a contributor to the editorial process. Credland’s design of the book was intended to embody the nature of the volume’s content. The Notes from Nowhere group collectively assembled the writing of the text and the production and sourcing of images. Three design considerations were employed. First, the book format was designed to resemble a brick. Second, a collage technique was adopted that avoided the prioritisation of one form of agitation over another. Third, an editorial rationale informed the design such that aspects of the joy of activism were not missed, despite the seriousness of the endeavour. For this latter consideration the cover was given a bright colour palette, one section of the book is deliberately titled ‘carnival’, and messages of optimism such as “struggle and the fence is broken” are inserted throughout. |
