Description: | Storage Facility project included in the exhibition Craft Emergency at Aspex Gallery Portsmouth. Craft Emergency is a biennial group exhibition which aims to champion contemporary craft by emerging makers from across the UK and beyond, increasing exposure for their work, and encouraging further professional development opportunities. Storage Facility is the latest incarnation of an ongoing project by artist and designer Ben Branagan, transforming the pulped remains of deaccessioned library books into an eclectic series of handmade and distinctly non functional pots, vases and ambiguous artefacts. Examining the methods we employ to store and recall cultural knowledge, this idiosyncratic collection creates an alternative archive of the information these discarded books once held, returning them to an object making tradition that is prehistoric and pre-literate. |
