Embodied Translation: Drawing with the Body and Cloth

This article discussed the development of research at the intersection of drawing and design for dance and methods developed to achieve symbiotic development of clothing design and choreography. This process is understood as a type of physical drawing process, working in three-dimensional space with the body and cloth. The research was undertaken with a dancer and designer and explores how embodied ideas can be translated and communicated through clothing and how that process could be understood as a kind of writing, as corporeal writing, that occurs between bodies, cloth and clothing in performance.
