| Description: | Songs I-VI (2005-17, ongoing) is a series of audio interludes of various durations, ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes, in which instances of the lyric ‘golden’ collide to produce condensed audio interludes, at turns joyful, plaintive, and wistful. Songs was initiated during an Artquest/B3 residency, 'Electric Greenhouse' (February – April 2005). Songs I-III were subsequently featured in the solo exhibitions, 'Golden' and 'Golden (Lessons)' at Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester, and Beaconsfield, London (2006); Songs I-V were presented at the 1st Asia Biennial and 5th Guangzhou Triennial, 2015-16, Guangzhou; and Songs I-VI were exhibited as part of 'Diaspora Pavilion', 2017, Palazzo Pisani Santa Marina, 57th Venice Biennale, and 'Diaspora Pavilion', 2018, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, UK). Songs is part of the ongoing project, 'Golden' (2005-present). Songs I-VI provide the basis for Mobile Chorus (2006, 2014, 2017), an ad hoc participatory live event that has taken place at Beaconsfield, London; MAI, Montreal; and Diaspora Pavilion. |
