Plastic Words

This series of events sought a meaningful connection between recent developments in literature and art. As organisers we felt that the current preoccupation with 'conceptual writing' wasn't adequate to the full complexity of the relations between literature, understood as a historically particular approach to narrative, text, image and the cultures of publishing, and art in all its contemporary manifestations. More specifically, it attempted to create live, spatial and visual embodiments of literary texts and concepts to find points were distinctions between literature and contemporary art could be usefully explored or removed. Some of the participants were already engaged with contemporary art practice in direct ways (including Chris Kraus, Nick Thurston and Peter Osborne) while others arrived at a new relation to it.
