Description: | What exactly do recording technologies ‘capture’ and what is the effect of such ‘pursuit’? Is recording the sound of a species or place inconsequential? Re-capturing is a film-assemblage work that consists of a (shotgun) microphone stood upright amongst coiled cabling; housed within a classic taxidermy bell jar. It acts as a silent, discursive presence and provocative gesture within a space; one that suggests recording technologies themselves have led to a culture of pursuit and entrapment. Paired with the film, the installation aims to critically re-imagine the aesthetic and ethical use of technology within (sound) arts practice. |
