Description: | Strange Strangers consists of all new sculptural and sound works made from everyday materials, subjects and technologies associated with sound, music and Nature documentary tropes. The exhibition presents a set of hybrid representations at once familiar, humorous and monstrous. Wright’s use of materials extends beyond a formal appreciation of the object and instead strives to reveal the hidden constructs of power between humans and non-humans. His work utilizes technology and objects as sculptural components that are repurposed in order to trace eco-political relations. At the heart of Wright’s use of such materials is his desire to shift away from a human-centric appreciation of media. Instead he offers a parallel outlook that continually ties media, technology, music and films into the entangled world of non-human animal others. Strange Strangers therefore critically reflects upon the augmented relationship between humans and animals, whilst challenging the privileges afforded to anthropocentric legacies within media and audio-visual modes of representation. |
