Strange Strangers (solo exhibition)

Strange Strangers consists of all new sculptural and sound works made from everyday materials, subjects and technologies associated with sound, music and Nature documentary tropes. The exhibition presents a set of hybrid representations at once familiar, humorous and monstrous. Wright’s use of materials extends beyond a formal appreciation of the object and instead strives to reveal the hidden constructs of power between humans and non-humans. His work utilizes technology and objects as sculptural components that are repurposed in order to trace eco-political relations. At the heart of Wright’s use of such materials is his desire to shift away from a human-centric appreciation of media. Instead he offers a parallel outlook that continually ties media, technology, music and films into the entangled world of non-human animal others. Strange Strangers therefore critically reflects upon the augmented relationship between humans and animals, whilst challenging the privileges afforded to anthropocentric legacies within media and audio-visual modes of representation.
