Description: | Noli Timere was commissioned in September 2013 for the Irish Literary Society in London within days of Seamus Heaney’s death. It commemorates the life and work of Heaney through readings of, and commentaries on, Heaney’s poetry, along with music and film. It incorporates filmed interviews by Dr Esther Armstrong with Professor Bernard O’Donoghue and Professor Roy Foster – close friends during his period as Oxford Professor of Poetry – along with extracts from Charlie McCarthy’s documentary, Out of the Marvellous, produced by Icebox Films for RTE on the occasion of the poet’s 70th birthday. The event was introduced by the distinguished poet and author, Kevin Crossley-Holland, who interviewed Seamus Heaney during the 2013 Oxford Literary Festival, one of his last public appearances. Noli Timere is presented by Professor Michael Parker, currently working on a follow-up to Seamus Heaney:The Making of the Poet; Professor Stephen Regan of the Department of English Studies at Durham University, author of Irish Writing 1789-1939 and many essays on contemporary British and Irish Literature; and Dr Esther Armstrong, Senior Lecturer for Theatre and Screen at Wimbledon College of Arts, University of the Arts, London, and Hon Vice-Chair of the Irish Literary Society. |
