Palm Print Polyester Shirt, Top 100 Collection, shown at Refashioned: From Waste to Wear at the Science Museums Dana Centre, London Fashion Week, February 2007

The Palm Print shirt is part of the Top 100 project, which began in 2002 and intends to explore fashion/textile recycling to create 100 exhibition and production pieces. The ideas that have been explored within this project formed the basis for the current AHRC Ever and Again project.

The recycled shirt collections address ideas about:

·Upcycling (Michael Braungart)
·New Technologies beneficial when upcycling polyester (Kate Goldsworthy)
·Low Launder - (Earley / Fletcher)

Refashioned: From Waste to Wear was a catwalk presentation by 5 fashion designers who recycle, and was also a series of workshops, and a debate chaired by Lucy Siegle. The event aimed to question how designers could turn reused materials into modern, cutting-edge clothes and accessories.

The Palm Print shirt was short-listed for a Peugeot Design Award in 2002, (London, UK tour). This shirt and the project has been widely featured and cited in the press and key publications, most recently in Seamless, by Bradley Quinn (Laurence King, 2008).

Rebecca can be described as a practice-based textile design researcher in that her research integrates designing both as a mode of investigation and communication of research outcomes. This practice component encompasses a wide range of design related activities. For example, she produces hand and digitally printed textiles for her own label, undertakes public art projects and commissions, and is an educator, facilitator and curator.
