Description: | Seeing being seen, Loops is a series of photographs presented as cylinders standing in groups. The photographs are showing people at Frieze London looking at art, meeting and dealing. The viewer who only sees a tangent of the rolled-up photograph at one time explores the imagery while moving around the cylinders and eventually apprehending them as a whole. At each moment different details of different cylinders connect, allowing the viewer to see continuously interchanging meetings by their selective attention. Hamann explores how playfully experimental treatment, physical handling and viewing of images test and shift perception of ourselves relating to others. As part of a larger project–juxtaposing images of social scenes into new interchanging narratives–I have been photographing exchanges at Frieze since 2015, then reassembling the images in installations, multiples and artists books. Seeing being seen, Loops exists as multiples and installations (see 'Did you spot the Gorilla' and 'At First Sight') |
